The inscrutable Tribe of Astronauts performs a darkly delicate operation on your mind with this long-form soundscape. David Kennedy composed this album around the concept of the pyramids communicating with the constellation of Orion. About the album: The infinite mirror started as a single sound, a seed from millions of threads, which grew into the album you are now listening to. In the software I created pyramid shapes by cutting and pasting the music, thus creating "The infinite mirror." From that came the idea of basing the songs on the building of the pyramids at Giza as they may or may not have...

J. Dujardin, who has previously released on Webbed Hand as Uitgezonderd, continues his sophisticated dark ambient/electronica oeuvre with "This will be the last." Dark, melancholic soundscapes by Dujardin are built with shimmering walls of effected guitar, piano and electronic instruments. As Uitgezonderd he released Sterven Stil Leven [wh178] and Burning Giraffes at Sea [wh156] . The works of J. Dujardin & Uitgezonderd center on melancholy themes, with piano and guitar as...

Anilod is a duo consisting of iaiko and Raspee. In "Kinilam" they improvised on a variety of electronic and acoustic instruments. iaiko has previously released the work "images" [wh182] on Webbed Hand. In this new work, "Kinilam" he has teamed up with Raspee. This 20-minute live session uses hums, strums, drones and tones from a variety of sources, electrical and otherwise. It begins with an intense display of feedback and distortion, then eases into a very subtle...

Following on the success of Mystified's "Bone Drones" series comes a new collection of drone works, this time drawing its sounds entirely from a wooden overtone flute. "In August of 2011, Thomas of mystified purchased an overtone flute from artist Steve Brand. The flute, when played, hits a single note on various octaves. It produces a nice, breathy tone. Thomas immediately became interested in using sounds from the flute to create acoustic drones. Each of the 5 pieces in...

Planivaar illustrates the realm "between worlds" with this intriguing new album combining instrumental improvisations and sound collage. About this album: "Between Worlds" was inspired by moments of detachment from everyday life, when the mind wanders and you co-exist in the physical and the imaginary. You can walk home or have a conversation but also feel slightly removed from the experience. Created over a number of months late at night the album blends haunted guitar,...

The cryptically familiar Ice Guild Kaiser recently emerged from his workshop with this purpose-built addition to the popular "Rain" series. This recording is a product of Ice Guild Kaiser's research into Webbed Hand's venerable "Rain" series, and it bears structural similarities to the earliest releases, while showing the influence of later mutations. He acknowledges that, at heart, "Rain" is functional music, a remote descendent of so-called elevator music, easy...

Mystified concludes his collection of drone-ambient works derived entirely from trombone sounds, a landmark trilogy expanding an already very diverse discography. "Bone Drones 3", the concluding part of the Bone Drone trilogy, is darker than the first part and less abrasive than the second. All 4 pieces were created from 3 notes played on a muted trombone, then processed and mixed. I tried to focus a little more on progressions and chord structures on this release. There's lots of...

Eccentric dark ambient journeys from Eccentrum, these spacious, cinematic soundscapes are spiced with moments of echoing percussion. About the album: The album, being inspired by the numerous religious beliefs that humans held throughout centuries, is meant to give an aural impression of each entity. Knowledge of the particular beliefs should put the pieces in better context - as the beings and their roles and characters vary, so do the tracks. Credit: The spoken bit from "Vishnu" is...

A long-form remix of DW's Abecedronium, combining 26 separate drones into an ever-shifting odyssey. Drone Wallah is C.P. McDill's project devoted solely to expansive drone works. This album and its predecessor were the fruits of a season of experimentation with the numerous means of creating droney sounds pleasing to the ear. It is by no means exhaustive, as there are millions of possible ways. This is just one brief period of exploration. Credits: The original drones produced by Drone Wallah...

A glittering soundscape, this long-form generative piece by experimentalist Tim Doyle is based on fractal algorithms. About Incarnation: "I had about 100 candidates for names in something like 29 subcategories under some 8 main categories, and Incarnation finally won out. This is one of what I call my "hinged" pieces, where there is a profound alteration at the midpoint, often opening up the piece in some way, although it can go the other way or just sideways in some cases. In...
